A conceptual music video
This video is a conceptual/ narrative video. It uses stop motion that follows the life and dreams of a young woman. The cinematography used within this music video is mainly long shots and I think they have done this because they wanted the audience to see everything that is going on within the shot. The long shots also create a sense of voyeurism as the audience are looking into the woman’s life and dreams/ takes away her privacy. The cinematography used within in this video is simple but effective as it uses a bird’s eye view creating a different way of seeing a music video which is a brilliant way to keep the audience's interested in the video. There is little camera movements used within the video subverting the conventions of a music video as camera movement are usually used to keep the audience watching the video and giving it that repeatability factor .
The editing techniques this video uses are mainly cutaways. The main reason for this is because using other editing technique may make the video look to complex and very hard to follow through.
The mise-en-scene plays a significant part within the video as they help s to illustrate the lyrics . The prop, mattress is used in every shot for the performance part of the video where as other props such as blankets and the pillows are used to create the scenery for example somewhere in the video the blanket was used to represent water and pillows for clouds.
The lighting is also significant in the video as It helps to create a difference between locations the artist is trying to show.
